Sevier County 4-H Projects

4-H offers a wide variety of projects on the county, regional, and state levels. Each 4-Her selects a project folder to work on throughout the year in their school 4-H club. Please visit our Golden Eagle Award for more information on project folder completion. In addition to these activities completed in 4-H clubs, the projects listed below are offered on the county level:

Poultry “Chick Chain” Project

It is time to order birds for the 2024 Chick Chain Project! Raising chickens for layers can be a fun 4-H project! You can have fun taking care of chickens while learning about poultry production through your experience. Your responsibilities in this project include feeding, watering, and daily care for your birds. You must furnish housing, equipment, and feed for your birds. The birds come in groups of 10 or 20 and will arrive early-mid March. The breed is the Red Star and they will cost $35.00 per group of 10 or $65.00 per group of 20. If there are supply issues, our second choice of bird is Amber Star. Those receiving chicks may participate in a 4-H Pullet Show at the Sevier County Fair next September. Ribbons and prize money will be awarded to the best entries.

Have multiple 4-Hers but don’t want a large flock? Use our sibling fee! This fee allows multiple 4-Hers from one family to share a flock. Your order must allow for a minimum of three birds per 4-Her (ex. Two siblings share a flock of 10 birds so the order total is $35 for the flock and $10 for the additional sibling, totaling $45).

If you are interested in the Chick Chain Project, you may register using the order form below or the online signup. Registration is due by December 6, 2023. Due to chick availability, NO LATE REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED. After you register, you will be contacted with more details. Chick Chain communication is done through email so please use an email that is actively checked when registering!

Chick Chain participants are eligible for our Stockman Award! See the information below on how you can earn the award and receive the cost of your flock back.
